The 8 Accountability Project

An open, community-edited space for grass-roots action and reconciliation on 8

How exactly does standing silent with candles on second street differentiate us from the anti-war groups that regularly staff second. Won't most folks just think we're just another kindly Christian group welcoming the lord Jesus? Have you ever heard of a group called "ACT UP"? Where do you think the quality of life of our brothers (largely) would be be if folks didn't have the cojones to standup and fight back. I guess you all must be bottoms enjoy. Count me out.

Fredondo man WTF?!

We were out there at Signal Hill City Hall demanding the recall of the city treasurer. We were out in Lakewood protesting the largest contributor to Prop 8 in Long Beach. We froze our butts off on Pine St protesting Cinemark. We joined with Unite Here to protest Hyatt in San Diego.

We do one event with candles and we're all bottoms??

I know that the JTI says that we will be silent, but if you read the event in Belmont Shore, we will not be silent. We will be talking to the press, people on 2nd, and businesses on 2nd, so everyone in Long Beach and beyond will know that we are not the anti-war people on 2nd.

Finally, as to why we are doing this:

As a grass-roots movement we can't lose. And that's why faith leaders are trying to divide people from the top-down. There is no way I am going to let a few faith leaders divide people from the top down based on the lie that we cannot get along with people of faith, or that our movement is somehow violent. The LUTN event pretty much proves it and gets it out in press, and that is helpful because it takes this pretend issue off the table. Taking issues away from bigots is good.

So, this event is not your thing. That's cool, I respect that.

But you don't have to be like that to get your thoughts across on a project. Suggest an event for January that we can work on with you, one in which we can't you IN. And stop cryin' :)

Cool man!

And actually I need to find a few people with nerves of steel for an event (always peaceful, but steadfast and determined) in South orange county to protest one of the speakers (guess which one) at President Obama's inaguration. That will be on the 20th if I can get enough people to do it...

It's in the belly of the beast deep in South OC, surrounded by neocons as far as the eye can see. If you would be up for that shoot me a note and we'll talk about it offline.

Kindly,
-s
